I come from San Francisco, California, and have lived in many places but almost always by the sea. I’m now settled in Scotland with my husband, Joseph, who is a professor at the University of Glasgow. My two sons, Joshua Franks and Gabe Sventek have successful careers in the visual arts in Los Angeles and Shanghai and their work is amazing. You should take a look.

Many photographers or people who make images are gifted with the ability to describe their work in deeply-involved, philosophical or metaphysical terms. I’m not. The photographs and paintings I make come from a sense of place and atmosphere, blending reality with memory and impression – places visited, books read, songs heard.

Black and white photographs seem to me to enable a subject to be endowed with an extended presence and sense of depth that color often can not portray. The tones represent for me the best and most important parts of memories and impression.

The digital paintings shown here are created with Studio Artist by Synthetik Software which enables me to make pens, brushes and other marking devices which simulate traditional wet media such as watercolors, oils, and acrylics.
